Afghan  Girl

This painting was the cover of the national geographic magazine with the Afghan girl as the feature. I painted a torn page so that her mouth is missing; which ultimately symbolizes her voice (as a woman).
If your not familiar with the article, They found her several years later. Her appearance had changed drastically due to the harsh weather and war. It's quite shocking actually. Not only can you see the same pain and fear in her eyes as a adult, but now she wears it like a heavy vale. She obviously had many stories to tell, but unfortunately she wasn't allowed to speak
